The School of Medicine (SOM) Dean’s Office has a new recruiter position reporting to the SOM HR Director. The recruiter will provide expert recruitment advice and support for filling the 3,800 SOM professional and classified staff positions, across all 31 departments, as turnover happens. This position requires independent judgment, analysis and discretion in planning and executing SOM recruitments.
This position works closely with HR partners across the SOM, Total Talent Management, and UW HR Compensation. This position is expected to understand, interpret, and apply appropriate policy and procedures while following all applicable regulations.
This position has all necessary system access in UW Hires and Workday to support SOM recruitments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This position requires significant organization, problem-solving, project management and communication skills with frequent and substantive interactions within the SOM and with UW HR. Individual initiative, judgement, discretion regarding sensitive and confidential matters, and superior customer service skills are all necessary for the tasks assigned. This position requires accuracy, efficiency, flexibility, creativity, and a desire to serve multiple stakeholders, while working within UW regulations.
Recruitment: •Manage full cycle recruiting for hard to fill positions. This may include posting positions, developing sourcing strategies that attract diverse candidates, screening, and interviewing candidates, and drafting offer letters. •Create candidate banks for high volume positions such as research scientists/coordinators and executive/administrative assistant positions (or other positions TBD). Allocate applicants to the positions that best suit them based on knowledge, skills, abilities, and interests. •Develop standard interview questions that can be tailored easily to specific positions. •Responsible for sourcing, identifying, and recommending placements of diverse candidates through creative internal and external sourcing methods.
Expand the Applicant Pools: •Advertise the SOM in general as a premier employer in external venues to broaden our applicant pool. •Work with individual hiring managers to identify external posting sites to broaden applicant pool. •Work with hiring managers to identify strong finalists for positions who are not selected and find positions where they are quality candidates. •Proactively source, network, and identify and interview potential candidates; build relationships with campus and non-campus partners to build candidate sourcing opportunities. •Attend recruiting and outreach functions such as job fairs and socials to represent the SOM and to source potential candidates.
Logistics: •Conduct phone screens for candidates of interest. •Conduct reference checks for finalist.
Miscellaneous: •Maintain recruiting metrics dashboard. Dashboard may include: open positions, filled positions, time-to-fill, and separations. Metrics may apply to both across the SOM and hard-to-fill positions. •Advise managers on the legislative and regulatory requirements of the recruitment and selection process. •Evaluate recruitment policies and procedures for quality improvement.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS •Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or other related field (relevant experience may be substituted). Two or more years’ work experience. •Knowledge of HR policies, procedures, principles, and practices; especially as they pertain to recruitment. •Exhibit a proactive, service-oriented manner and ability to deal effectively with a diverse and demanding client base. •Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS •Human resources experience at a large university setting. •Experience working with faculty, staff, and student employees in a unionized environment. •Knowledge of University of Washington Human Resources policies. •Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
