The Treasury Office has an outstanding opportunity for an Accounting Manager. This position is critical to the analytical, accounting, reporting, administrative and customer service functions of the University’s Treasury Office. The purpose has grown in direct relation to the very significant growth in complexity of the investment portfolio and reporting requirements.
Customers range from Treasury office staff, department fiscal employees and administrators to donors – large and small, central administration, Deans, the President and Provost Offices. Further, this position must remain current with financial accounting changes and focus on more effective and efficient work processes.
This position will report to the Associate Treasurer for Treasury Operations, and will be Treasury’s accounting lead in partnering with members of the University Investment Management Company and the University Controller’s Office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Accounting and Operations Work closely with custodial bank staff to ensure integrity of data reported to the University Hands on accounting for monthly cash movement, capital call and distribution processing, and complex investment reconciliation and reporting processes Work in partnership with the University’s Investment Management Company Analyzes and prepares monthly journal entries and compiles reporting while demonstrating attention to detail and accuracy Compile and summarize data of investments from the custodial bank’s system to the University’s accounting system Works closely with internal treasury personnel, as well as University Advancement, and other departments/schools of the University to ensure accounting for the University’s investments are done timely and accurately. Assist in calculating, reviewing and processing the annual allocation of invested funds income across campus Prepare schedules and workpapers for the annual audit and the University’s annual report Review monthly and quarterly custodial bank reports for accuracy and consistency Reconcile general ledger, subsidiary accounts, database and custodial bank data Communicate deadlines Collaborate with investment operations and performance staff to assure accurate and consistent reporting Prepare the annual invested funds review for the Budget Office Respond to requests for information, reports and assistance on departmental issues Communicate with outside agencies, organizations and donors Accounting for life income and outside trusts Provides accounting support for UW CoMotion
Modernizing investment accounting as part of Finance Transformation (Workday) project Provide special project/process support for the Associate Vice President, Senior Associate Treasurer, Associate Treasurer and campus administrators Other duties as assigned
Lead Responsibilities: This position leads the accounting for the University of Washington's investments, but does not directly supervise staff

Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field and five years of experience. Type of Experience Required: •Familiarity with US GAAP and Governmental Accounting Standards •Demonstrated project and process management skills •Superior written and verbal communication skills •Experience prioritizing competing demands •A strong customer service orientation •Process improvement experience and mindset •Proven ability to work as part of a team and independently •Microsoft products, with strong excel skills
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Desired:
•CPA or Advanced degree (MS in Accounting or MBA with emphasis in accounting, finance or tax) •Public accounting experience •Knowledge of the University’s financial systems •Experience working with outside advisors and investment professionals •Custodian investment accounting
