The ASSISTANT ACCOUNTING MANAGER UW MEDICAL CENTER - UW MEDICINE ACCOUNTING works under the direction of the UWMC Accounting Manager and is responsible for the oversight of the Cashier Department, Cash Accounting, Banking and the Single Billing Office (SBO) payment, settlement and reconciliation activity. This individual is also responsible for staff supervision, conducting annual reviews, and addresses job performance and professional development as well as providing a generally positive environment for employees. The ASSISTANT ACCOUNTING MANAGER will play a key role supporting implementations, upgrades and testing around UW Workday ERP, Destination: One and other systems expected to further streamline and standardize processes.
SBO AND CASHIERING MANAGEMENT: Oversight of the UWMC Single Business Office reconciliation process, funding activity and calculations of cash settlements for participating entities. Oversight of the UWMC Cashier Office. Serves as subject matter expert in process, upgrades and technology initiatives and improvements around EPIC and related reporting system.
MONTH-END CLOSE, INVENTORY AND FINANCIAL REPORTING: Assists with oversight and monitoring of the daily accounting activities and month-end close process, ensuring financial transaction adjustments are well supported and correctly recorded. Assists with the monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for UWMC and Shared Service entities for senior leadership, the Board of Directors and auditors. Assists with quarterly reconciliation of inter-affiliate transactions.
FINANCIAL AUDIT: Responsible for assisting with the annual financial audit with independent auditors.
SUPERVISION: The UWMC Assistant Accounting Manager will supervise accounting and/or Cashiering staff, including completing annual performance evaluations and compliance with Human Resource policies. Addresses performance issues appropriately.
OTHER DUTIES: Include collaboration in the design and implementation of accounting policies and practices, continuous improvement, adherence to internal controls and other dues and responsibilities as assigned. There are multiple system and process improvement projects which will require the position to participate in design discussions, testing, training and change management. Represents UW Medicine Accounting on committees or tasks forces and other responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field Minimum of six years’ experience with day-to-day accounting operations in a large, complex organization. Healthcare and previous supervisory experience preferred, demonstrating professional and technical knowledge of financial reporting, operational process and an effective communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to respond to urgent ad hoc information and data requests from management and ability to meet deadlines. Experience includes General Ledger reconciliation, financial statement preparation, experience working with complex Excel spreadsheets and complex financial models. Strong technology skills are desired. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements. EPIC patient accounting experience desired.
DESIRED: Experience working with complex data and Excel spreadsheets and ability to complete complex reconciliations Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers, and anticipate follow up questions and needs.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Work currently includes 1 day in office and 4 days remote. This will likely change to be more in office days (up to full time) as the Covid-19 pandemic permits. |
