The Accounting team has a wide range of responsibilities relating to all aspects Fred Hutchs finances including financial reporting, policy setting, internal and data controls and transaction processing. The team works closely with multiple groups within Fred Hutch to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
The Accounting Analyst II primarily performs finance functions that require industry, business process or financial knowledge as well as analytical skills. There may be transaction processing in areas that require judgment, specialized knowledge, or longer cycle time, but generally the role monitors performance. This position leverages available technology, including financial applications and Microsoft Excel, as an integral aspect of this position. This role reports directly to the Accounting-Billing Manager.
Prepare, process, and distribute some complex grant, contract, and miscellaneous billing and provide necessary accounting guidance to ensure that revenues are properly recorded.
Identify, investigate and assist with the resolution of grant and contract accounting issues including collection of receivables
Prepareand/or updatecomplex schedules, i.e. auditsupport and trend analysis
Work with cash receipt desk to ensure accurate payment application
Activate and monitor contract and award status using knowledge of regulatory and compliance standards
Gather and manipulate data to prepare periodic and ad hoc reports including: electronic payment registers, merchant services registers, listings of past due invoices, trend analysis, etc.
Review General Ledger and other supporting or subsystems for data quality
Prepare monthly journal entries within specialized functions, examples given include subsidiary activity, cost accounting, estimates and strategic partnerships with Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, University of Washington, or Seattle Childrens
Provide guidance to partners and customers at business process level
Participate in process improvement projects including reviewing processes and suggesting changes for improved efficiencies and controls
Document and update policies and procedures for assigned areas of responsibility
May assist with training and directing, but not supervising, other specialists or analysts as needed
Serve as backup to other specialists and analysts as needed
Other duties and special projects as assigned
Bachelors degree in business or equivalent experience, particularly in a not-for-profit, academic, federally funded or research environment
Minimum of 4 years general accounting
Strong technology skills including efficiency with keyboard and mouse as well as experience with desktop applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
Experience with PeopleSoft or equivalent ERP system with a desire to learn new systems
Diligent and self-motivated with attention to detail
Ability to consistently and accurately process large volume of transactions
Ability to meet important deadlines
Strong interpersonal communication skills and desire to work in team-oriented environments
Process improvement experience
Experience with accounts receivable, and/or cash collection
