Summary

Under the direction of the Blood Center Operations Director, you will be responsible for directing and applying all aspects of the company's medical policies, standards, federal and state regulations, and accreditation program requirements at our blood collection facility operating under the Trusting Heart Blood Center brand. This is a contracted position, typically requiring two to four hours per week with two hours being onsite at our Pacific Northwest Blood Collection Center.

Responsibilities of the Medical Director include:

• Directly performs or delegates to another appropriately licensed individual the duties of "laboratory director", "technical consultant," or "clinical consultant" as prescribed by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 regulations (CLIA). As Laboratory Director, shall: a) participate in CLIA-related activities as requested by STS management, and b) observe and confirm compliance of medical laboratory procedures as they affect the screening, assessment, collection, and processing of human platelets at the Trusting Heart center.
• Oversees practices and ensures compliance of center operations; trains and evaluates staff for completion of training and recommendation for certification by Quality department; provides guidance and training to Center Medical Staff on medical-related procedures and practices.
• Provides weekly in-person visits to the collection center during normal operating hours and is available for consultation via phone and email during normal operating hours.
• Performs other functions as needed, including but not limited to: observing and confirming compliance of donor notification process for unsuitable test results, conducting donor medical evaluations, and assessing results of donor screening and laboratory tests to determine a donor's initial and continued suitability for donation (including the administration of informed consent materials).
• Provides assessment and confirms compliance with STS medical policies, processes, procedures, and support services as they may affect the evaluation, suitability, and safety of donors as well as final components intended for transfusion.
