The number of residency positions varies throughout the year, depending on vacancies in the units, mix of current staff, and applications from experienced nurses. If selected, when does the residency start? We hire into residencies throughout the year, with orientation dates offered approximately twice a month. Some residencies, such as Critical Care and Perioperative, have specific start dates. How can I track the status of my application? If your application is not selected, you will receive electronic notification and your online application status is updated. Otherwise your application is active and under consideration until the candidate bank closes. How long until I hear from someone? Your application is reviewed by the recruiters and remains active in the candidate bank. If there is an opportunity for you to interview, we will contact you. Residency Program includes: A unit-based clinical orientation with experienced RN preceptors. A mentor to continue your development through the first year at UWMC Selected education opportunities by nursing specialty oAcute Care Skills Day: a one-day, hands-on or case-based day focusing on skills common to all UWMC acute care areas. oAcute Care New Graduate Symposium: a three-day class series offered several times a year to expand your knowledge in areas common to all UWMC acute care areas. oSpecialty consortium programs (ICU and OR). Computerized information system training: a computer class to orient you to the UWMC computerized information system for documentation. The UWMC Montlake Nursing Residency Program Supports You to: •Safely provide care for patients in the nursing specialty you have selected. •Prioritize patient care based on acuity or urgency of patient need. •Recognize and respond to emergency situations. •Recognize abnormal assessment/data and know when to consult others. •Administer medications in a safe and timely manner. •Identify resources to support patient care. •Access patient education materials and on line resources. •Coordinate care with the entire health care team. •Communicate effectively with individuals and groups. •Be part of a nursing team caring for patients at a renowned research and teaching medical center. Upon completion of the RN residency program, you will continue to receive support from your management team, mentors, clinical nurse specialists, and staff development specialists.
