The Controller collaborates with leaders across the organization to ensure organizational processes exist to effectively solve operational and financial issues and to support accurate financial statements. Influence business partners and collaborate in addressing barriers. The incumbent is responsible for pro-actively forming the vision and roadmap of the accounting department. The incumbent will act as a resource to departments and the management team and provide timely, accurate, and complete financial reports. Responsibilities include the following:
Produce accurate, timely, and complete periodic internal and external financial reports
Maintain a complete and accurate system of accounting records
Responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive set of internal controls designed to safeguard assets, mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy of SCCA's financial results
Ensure financial statements comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and standards established by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB)
Maintain policies that oversee all aspects of direct and indirect financial controls
Establish processes for staff development, particularly around healthcare acumen, collaboration with peers and succession planning
Work with external auditors to support the annual financial audit, interim financials to support bond offerings and regulatory auditors to support appropriate federal and state agencies
Responsible for general accounting activities to include the general ledger, monthly contractual allowance for patient accounts receivable, non-patient accounts receivable, revenue recognition, expense accruals and preparation of accurate monthly/annual financial statements in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles
Responsible for managing third party resources engaged in preparing the Medicare/Medicaid cost report, 990 tax return, and other government-related reporting. Establish review processes to ensure that reporting is accurate and timely. Provide oversight of audits performed by outside auditors and applicable agencies.
The position is responsible for treasury functions working with both the Director and CFO. Treasury responsibilities include cash management, cash forecasting, ad-hoc treasury reporting and analysis, capital and leasing reporting and analysis, supporting debt compliance and covenant reporting, online banking administration, bank account management, including banking fee expense management. Support the Investment Sub-Committee and providing board reports as needed.
Responsible for maintaining and continuously improving the organization's internal control structure to include procedural and system understanding, documentation, and enhancements
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a closely related field
10 years accounting experience in a healthcare setting required if bachelors degree only;5 years of accounting experience in a healthcare setting with advanced degrees or healthcare finance advanced certification (see below)
Three years of management / supervisory experience
Excellent oral, written, presentation, and negotiation skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage a variety of projects under deadline in a fast-paced, financially complex environment
Ability to analyze and evaluate key accounting issues, including new and proposed pronouncements and the ability to write appropriate whitepapers and policy statements in a consistent and concise manner
Ability to document key accounting policies across a broad array of accounting and operational issues
CPA, MPH, MHA or healthcare finance advanced certification (CHFP or FHFMA)
Washington State CPA license is strongly preferred
Medicare Cost Report preparation experience
Proven Microsoft office skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Knowledge of and experience with PeopleSoft and Epic
Foster a departmental culture that embraces management and process transparency and constructive dialogue to understand processes and roles within the group
Participate in cross functional groups to build better transaction workflows and data streams that support financial reporting and efficiency

Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is a cancer treatment center that unites doctors from Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center, University of Washington Medical Center, and Seattle Children’s. The purpose of this organization is to provide state-of the-art patient and family centered care; support the conduct of cancer clinical research and education; enhance access to improved cancer interventions; and advance the standard of cancer care regionally and beyond. The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in the Northwest, and according to the National Cancer Data Base, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance patients in general have better survival rates than patients treated at other cancer treatment centers.
