ZEI is currently looking for an experienced, accomplished, self-motivated Senior High Voltage Pulsed Power Electrical Engineer to lead implementation of high voltage capacitor bank power supplies and safety systems. This position will also supervise and consult on general Electrical Engineering projects, such as design, assembly, and fielding of general electrical circuits in support of ZEI research and development. This Senior Engineer will work with ZEI scientific, engineering, and technical staff, and will co-supervise other engineering and technical staff. The ideal candidate is an organized, inventive problem solver, capable of working through technical challenges and employing sound, pragmatic solutions through team efforts. Responsibilities and Duties:
Oversee design, procurement, assembly, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and support of ZEI capacitor bank power supplies & safety systems
Supervise maintenance and health monitoring of ZEI power supply systems by ZEI engineering and technical staff
Lead troubleshooting and repairs of ZEI power supply systems
Lead documentation of power supply & safety systems
Supervise general electronics design
Assist other ZEI engineering and technical staff with electronics and high-vacuum system projects
Assist in experiment operational campaigns
Position reports to the ZEI Principal Scientist, and co-supervises ZEI engineering and technical staff with the ZEI Principal Scientist
Qualifications and Skills:
10-15+ years experience in high voltage pulsed power engineering
BSEE or higher degree or equivalent
Extensive experience with implementation (design, procurement, assembly, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and support) of high-voltage pulsed-power systems, including high-voltage capacitor systems and high-power switches (e.g. ignitrons or solid-state devices, such as thyristors, diodes, etc.).
Extensive experience with interlocked safety systems and control systems (such as PLCs)
Proficiency with EE circuit design tools (SPICE, Screamer, etc.)
Mechanical design experience (SolidWorks or similar CAD) including use of machine tools
Demonstrated excellent documentation skills
Demonstrated ability to both effectively lead and participate in team efforts
Knowledge and experience with high vacuum systems (e.g. mechanical pumps, roots pumps, turbomolecular pumps, vacuum gauges, etc.)
