The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.
The Phlebotomist / Specimen Processing Tech I promotes and maintains effective and professional communication with patients, clients, co-workers and SCCA colleagues. The Tech works efficiently to minimize patient wait times, performs specimen processing of blood specimens/venipuncture phlebotomy. Responsibilities may include transfusion support duties.
This position will have aSunday - Thursday 0800 - 1630 schedule.
Processes specimens including centrifugation, aliquoting, and dispensing specimens to proper lab processing and sendout sites
Transfusion Support Service, order, receives, and properly stores blood components for transfusion
Bone marrow tech assistance program/duties include proficient smear prep, specimen prep, assistance to clinician and required paperwork and LIS order entry
Records variances of standard policies and procedures in Patient Safety Net accurately and where required
Responsible for receiving patients at the Alliance Laboratory for blood draw appointments and scheduling walk-in appointments when required
Performs specimen processing of blood specimens / performs venipuncture phlebotomy on patients, donors, research participants and employees where required
High school graduation or the equivalent
Washington state MA/Phlebotomist certification (or sponsored by SCCA if competency assessment and training are completed)
One year working as Phlebotomist in a professional phlebotomy practice
Knowledge of basic medical terminology
Ability to lift 25 lbs.
Completion of phlebotomy training course
Preferred specimen handling and processing experience including accessioning, centrifuge, aliquoting, sendouts and blood banking
Preferred EPIC/Cadence, answering phones/handling phone inquiries from patients and staff
