As a key member of the Senior Management team, the Vice President and CFO will report to the President & CEO and assume a strategic role in the overall management of the Seattle Symphony, Seattle Symphony Foundation and Benaroya Hall. The Vice President and CFO will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial-related activities of the organization. Essential Job Functions:
Provide leadership in the development and achievement of short and long-term financial objectives
Direct and oversee all finance and accounting functions of the Seattle Symphony, Benaroya Hall, and Seattle Symphony Foundation including financial forecasting and budget preparation, financial reporting and cash management. Work closely with board chairs, vice chairs and treasurer on strategic initiatives and provides additional financial analysis as requested.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with other senior managers to identify their needs and offer a full range of business solutions
Ensure that effective internal controls are in place. Oversee compliance with all legal and reporting requirements, such as GAAP, IRS, WA State OIC, and annual reports to the League of American Orchestras, ASCAP, BMI, and others as required.
Supervise the work of General Counsel on legal projects. Ensure contracts are appropriately reviewed prior to signature
Serve as a member of the negotiating team in the renewal of the collective bargaining agreement with the Musicians Committee. Assist with other negotiations, as needed
Represent the Seattle Symphony in business dealings with external entities, including banks, creditors, auditors, law firms, investment managers, insurance brokers and insurers, actuaries, financial advisers, etc.
Work with the Investment Advisory Committee of the SSF Board to establish appropriate endowment investment strategies including asset allocations
Serve as Plan Sponsor and Plan administrator for the Musician Pension Plan, and the Staff 403b Plan. Work closely with Pension Trustees Board, actuarial firm, pension asset managers & ERISA attorneys to oversee operation of the defined benefit plan
Mentor, develop and manage direct reports through ongoing evaluation and training
Oversight of Benaroya Hall facility operations and CAPEX budget
Work with key City of Seattle staff to ensure compliance with Master Lease agreement
Monitor financial transactions with the City including reimbursements for operating support and timely payment of bond debt obligations
Direct strategic planning for external IT services in support of the organization’s vision, goals and objectives

BA/BS in Accounting or Finance, MBA and/or CPA highly desirable
10+ years in progressively responsible financial leadership roles
Excellent analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills

Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization, verbally and in writing
Strong problem solving and analytical skills and the ability to exercise sound judgement allowing Executive Team to make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis

PC proficiency is essential including Microsoft Office Suite with expertise in Excel
