Facilities Services is the large and diverse organization that operates and maintains the Seattle campus facilities, grounds, utility distribution, transportation, waste management and environmental sustainability programs, and provides engineering direction for campus construction. Facilities Services has intermittent openings in a variety of shops for Temporary Electricians. These individuals will perform journey-level electrical work in the maintenance, repair, and construction of University facilities.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Positions allocated to this class are distinguished by the responsibility to perform journey - level electrical work in the maintenance, repair, and construction of institution facilities on 750 volt system, or less.
Alter, maintain, repair or install wiring, cables, switches, controls, fuse boxes, breaker panels, instrument panels, distribution panels, buzzer and bell circuits, power circuits and communications circuits; may construct new facilities from blueprints and specifications;
Modify, adjust, maintain, repair or install electric motors, electrical equipment, instruments such as pumps, clocks, lamps, stoves, electrical meters, timers, fans, air conditioners, refrigerators, power tools and motors;
Rewind coils and armatures; refinish commutators; replace and reseed brushes; replace work out bearings and other motor and generator parts;
Inspect electrical systems, communications systems and equipment to detect and correct faulty components or parts;
Inspect and maintain high voltage power transmission systems including wires, poles, transformers carrying 750 voltage, or less;
Perform alterations, adjustment, modification, repair and installation of electrical equipment systems;
Develop preliminary cost estimates for installations and repairs;
Drive service truck as required; load and unload materials and supplies;
May lead and instruct helpers as required;
May perform work in other trades;
Perform related duties as required.
Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an electrician; OR full journey status as an electrician in a union; OR four years' applicable work experience.
Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required.
Your resume will be evaluated based on: 1) Experience as an electrician or electrician's helper; 2) Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment of the electrician trades and standard safety precautions; 3) Ability to work from blueprints, plans and sketches to estimate material and time required for job completion; and 4) Ability to maintain hand and power tools required to the trade.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
