The Fiscal Tech is responsible for the Student Accounts Office customer service, answering financial questions for parents, students and other account holders who visit the office, call, or email. This position will also conduct ongoing, routine and repetitive fiscal tasks in manual and automated systems. The Fiscal Technician will also support general office functions in various fiscal capacities.
- Assists clients to resolve questions regarding their financial account. Provides advice, interpretation, and counsel to clients regarding a broad range of student account rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Interprets detailed financial data and communicates accurate information in-person, over the phone and via email under tight time constraints and heavy traffic, including difficult, emotional and sometimes upset clients. - Provides day-to day support, assistance, reconciliation and interpretation in all aspects of student financial account processing such as: tuition and fee charges, payment plans, late fees, guaranteed payment sources, direct deposits, payments, 1098t, and account balance. Applies knowledge and understanding to interpret and communicate university student account policy to internal and external customers. - Prepares and edits input and output of computerized fiscal data and makes corrections as required to maintain integrity of computer reports and files; - Prepares service vouchers for payment; verifies invoice and receipts by cross-checking with field orders; verifies extensions of credits, charges and totals, discounts, tax charged, credit memos applied, budget number, and vendor code; - Examines warrant or check register, verifies vendor names, amounts, and cross check with correspondence to receipts and invoices. - Tabulates and examines specific sections of accounts, such as accounts receivable, disbursements, petty cash, trial balances, bank reconciliations, and voucher audits; - Balances and prepares routine reports such as, collection agency remittances, post collection costs to the student accounts, reconciles and prepares check requests to pay the agencies the collection costs paid by the students. - Distribute University checks to individuals in person or by mail, to include but not limited to financial aid refunds, short term loans, payroll, accounts payable and other miscellaneous refunds and payments. - Processing Short-term loans, as needed. - Processing Payroll Deductions, as needed. - Proposes and develops system and non-system solutions for recurring problems and efficiency. - Communicates clearly, in writing and speech, to facilitate understanding of regulations, procedures and policies so as to avoid areas of confusion and misunderstanding. - Backs up the duties of the Fiscal Tech 3, in their absence. - Other duties as assigned
Demonstrated customer service skills
Experience/training that demonstrates the ability to use spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel), maintain spreadsheets, perform reconciliations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines.
Ability to learn quickly
OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
Experience with PeopleSoft
Experience with accounts receivable collections.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Salary: $2214/month with periodic increases up to $2848/month
Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer work station for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.
